I drew J. Cole (Jermaine Lamar Cole) who is a rapper from my hometown, Fayetteville, NC. For this piece, I wanted to have lots of colors that hit you but also compliment the soft browns in his face. I wanted to keep his face kind of soft and almost vulnerable because I think that is an important facet of his music that is often pushed aside for a harder edge. His eyes were an important piece for me because they initially come off as intimidating but behind that there is something sort of sad and kind. I initially was going to do two, but I ended up running out of time. Getting the proportions right and lining up the shadows was hard and I don't think I got it quite right. I also wanted to keep his skin looking kind of soft and moist, if that makes sense but also have some fun colored shadows and play off the colors in his sweatshirt.

I morphed a flower into a lamp that was in Britt's classroom.

If I had to do this project again I would put more elements of the lamp in, and I would make the petals lighter. I tried to use many values in this drawing because I wanted to create the appearance of a round flower, with dynamic, soft petals and value can create perspective. When something is light, it is probably a high point, and the portions that have more shading appear farther back.
